Not only does the month of March mark Innersense Organic Beauty's anniversary of becoming a certified B Corp, it's also B Corp Month, a month-long celebration where the entire B Corp (short for Certified B Corporation) community joins together to build more awareness about the significance of shopping from, working for, and collaborating with B Corps.
As a B Corp, here's a little refresher on how we do business differently: We're committed to meeting the "highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability to balance profit with purpose." The B Corps movement is about people using business as a force for good.
This year, the global B Corp Month theme is Behind the B, which was inspired by the idea that in order for consumers to trust businesses, it's important to reveal what's going on behind the scenes. And, in the spirit of public transparency, we're excited to give you a sneak peek into a new initiative we've recently joined: The B Corp Beauty Coalition. It's an alliance between 30 participating B Corp beauty companies around the globe that are bonding together to create a further commitment to improving sustainability and ethical standards in the cosmetics industry.
The coalition, which was unveiled in January, will share their knowledge and best practices with other B corps around the world. It leverages our combined strengths to improve business practices across the industry and focuses on four areas centered around sustainability:
- Socially responsible ingredient sourcing and supply chain engagement
- Packaging and practicing sustainable designs that aim for zero waste
- Greener logistics in transportation -how to distribute products while improving the social and environmental footprint
- Clear external messaging that helps shoppers more easily navigate the beauty category
Not only does the coalition push individual companies to think outside of the box by publishing their innovations, but it also inspires and influences the broader beauty industry to incorporate meaningful changes. The coalition will aim to pinpoint and share best practices and ways to make a positive impact on sustainability and further positioning the alliance's corporate businesses as forces for good.
All B Corps must pass the B Impact assessment, which is a score on how a company impacts its workers, community, environment, and customers. The process has taught us so much about how to improve as a clean hair care brand through new business operations and sustainability initiatives. This coalition takes our goals a step further by collaborating closely with like-minded beauty companies that also seek positive change in the world.
"As members of the B Corp Beauty Coalition, we envision a new approach to beauty that prioritizes soil as much as skin, nature as much as natural, evidence as much as ego, and impact as much as performance," reads the coalition's manifesto.
We're delighted to join hands and share the alliance's vision to deliver "beauty for good."
