Our partnership with Breast Cancer Prevention Partners means we actively support, endorse and advocate for breast cancer prevention legislation year round. Here's 5 reasons it's important to us as a clean beauty brand, in October and beyond.
1. INGREDIENTS MATTER
As a clean hair care brand founded by stylists, Greg and I understand the importance of ingredients in breast cancer prevention. When my daughter, Morgan, was diagnosed with Williams Syndrome at the age of 22 months, a lightbulb went off. I turned to health and I began reading labels. There, I discovered the products I trusted on myself, my beauty guests and my daughter were full of ingredients that were not the best for the environment or our health. Innersense Organic Beauty was born out of that quest for clean, safe ingredients.
2. WE CARE FOR THE CAREGIVERS
As a brand, we see ourselves as caring for the caregivers of our beloved industry. Sadly, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. And as salon workers tend to be overwhelmingly female, they're routinely exposed to toxic chemicals in cosmetics and hair care. Innersense Organic Beauty is our way of caring for these loving, compassionate caregivers by formulating products with high quality ingredients that eliminate their exposure.
3. WE CHOOSE PARTNERSHIPS WITH A PURPOSE
We've doubled down on our commitment to preserve the health of stylists and consumers by uniting with Breast Cancer Prevention Partners (BCPP), a leader in science-based policy and advocacy. Innersense Organic Beauty supports its Campaign for Safe Cosmetics efforts, which advocates to preserve the health of consumers, workers and the environment through public education, corporate accountability, sustainability campaigns and legislative policy designed to eliminate dangerous chemicals linked to adverse health impacts from cosmetics and personal care products.
4. INGREDIENT ADVOCACY WORKS
A major focus of BCPP efforts is the development of a comprehensive Breast Cancer Primary Prevention Plan for California. Rooted in science, this policy agenda to reduce breast cancer risk factors in our home state was developed based on feedback from a diverse set of stakeholders, including academic leaders, government regulators, non-profit organizations, and community leaders. In September, 2020, SB312 and AB 2762 were signed into law.
SB312 is a historic right-to-know bill making California first in the world to force disclosure of secret toxic fragrance and flavor chemicals in cosmetics. AB 2762 bans 24 toxic ingredients in cosmetics by 2025 (including mercury, PFAS, formaldehyde and M and O phenylenediamine).
5. SELF CARE IS PREVENTATIVE CARE
Prevention is the most sustainable way to support women's breast health. We must start by eliminating toxic exposure and encouraging self care. As a clean hair care brand, Innersense Organic Beauty sees self care as an essential way of nurturing ourselves.
