We’re sending our love (and more!) to Texas. Joanne and I knew instantly we had to help those displaced by Hurricane Harvey. We contacted the Red Cross and were connected with Austin Disaster Relief Network, a non-profit which works directly with the organization. En route to a distribution center in Celebrations, Texas, is two full pallets of Pure Harmony and Color Awakening Hairbath and Pure Inspiration and Color Radiance Conditioner in our former packaging. The organization was ecstatic to hear $60,000 worth of shampoo and conditioner are on their way. Click to watch Morgan send off our shipment with some Northern Cali sunshine! Continue Reading…
Chances are, if you’re a curly girl in the North Shore area of Massachusetts, you know Cala Renee Salon. You know it because her curls caught your eye and you just had to stop and ask where she goes. Then your curls stopped traffic for another curl friend and on and on. This is Cala Renee hair. It is everywhere.
“We have grown so much in our learning,” Cala Renee says. “New products are coming out all the time that help us further in our journey of changing lives one curl at a time!”
The hot word in the green beauty space right now is “preservatives.” Everyone is talking about it; but what’s not being said is how vital natural preservatives are in products applied to the hair and skin. It’s important to understand the facts and navigate the miscommunication and confusion; my intention here is only to share my point view. ~ Greg
Summer is officially here! While we love our fun in the sun, all that wind, heat and water can make hair brittle, thirsty and lifeless. We talked to a few of our pros – and mined our Innersense tribe – for these 6 summer hair tips with Innersense Organic Beauty.
It’s finally starting to warm up here in Northern California (bye bye, rain!), so of course we’re thinking beach waves and sun-kissed style as the mercury begins to climb. To celebrate the pending heat wave we’ve gathered a few of our favorite Spring to Summer hairstyles from our Instagram feed and how to get the look with Innersense Organic Beauty. What summer hair trends are you looking forward this sunny season?
Is your hair just NOT working for you right now? You’re not alone. Like your body, hair takes time to adjust to changing temperatures and humidity levels. Get gorgeous Spring hair with these two quick fixes from a pair of our favorite curl friends.
According to television commercials, this is how you wash your hair: Plop a half dollar sized amount shampoo on top of your head. Scoop up your remaining hair and mash it all into a foamy cap. And scrub. That’s not shampooing with intention and that’s not how we do it around here! Think of Innersense Organic Beauty hairbaths more like a facial cleanser: Our products are packed with high vibrational plant ingredients that nourish and cleanse the hair and scalp. Our products are meant to be used with love and intention. Here’s how to get the most out of our new Hydrating Cream Hairbath and not be a shampoo commercial!
Seasons and dew points change but the fight over frizz is a constant for the curly-haired girl. Luckily there’s stylists like Robin Sjoblom. Named one of the top curly hair stylists on the globe by Refinery 29, this Innersense Organic Beauty educator, Curly Hair Artistry queen and “curlisphere” social media darling has spent 20 years behind the chair encouraging women to #RockYourBlessing.
Robin recently christened an expansive new location for Southern Curl Inc. in Atlanta, Georgia, a sanctuary of curl love where she preaches the power of the curl and unlocks its myth and mysteries to a clientele thirsty for knowledge and increasingly hungry for healthier hair and products. “It’s a special place exclusive to the curly guest with a focus on education and community service,” she says. “We hope to grow into a brand focused on organic-based products, the health and care of the curl, and the heart of the guest who comes in to see us.”
Here’s our chat with the Southern belle of curls.

I fought my curls for 40 years before I saw my first Curly Hair Artist (CHA). It took hundreds of blown-straight-first hair cuts, botched bang jobs, slither scissor catastrophes and thinning shear atrocities before Bevely Turner of Hello Curls in Sacramento set me “straight.” If you’ve been putting off a visit to a Curly Hair Artist, quit it; she (or he!) is worth every dime to make your curls rejoice. Here’s 10 things to expect from your first time with a CHA. Continue Reading…
All curls are not created equal. All curly hair is not all curly. And each curl has a mind of its own. A curl specialist knows this. Many of us with coils and ringlets do not. Luckily there are stylists like Dianne Nola to translate our tendrils into a language we understand.
“An experienced stylist is like a psychic and hair doctor in one. They ‘get you’ before you even sit in the chair,” she says. “Breathe. Go to someone very experienced. They already know a lot about your hair. The missing piece is your lifestyle and expectations.”
The Best of San Francisco just named Dianne the top Curly Hair Stylist in the Bay Area, a tremendous title to hold in a city of salons. So we had to know more about this “hair doctor”… here’s our conversation!
Jessica Guster knew she wanted to be a hairdresser when she was eight years old. Her mother was a stylist, and Jessica was drawn to how happy people where when they came for their appointments. The Dalton, Ohio, artist had been styling hair for over a decade when she fell in love with textured hair six years ago. Now a Curly Hair Artist, next year Jessica opens her own studio, a curly girl sanctuary for the women she says she’s blessed to work with.
Curly Hair Artist Beverly Turner is the picture of health. She’s tall and lean, with a child’s laugh and gorgeous mermaid waves. You’ll see her biking through Sacramento in the morning on her way to the salon, curls clipped under her helmet. But she wasn’t that healthy 12 years ago, surrounded by hormone disrupting chemicals and respiratory irritants in cosmetology school. She fought chronic bronchitis and painful dermatitis and knew perms, additives and chemicals were the cause. So she took control of her professional life and opened her own organic salon. Texas is known for big hair, but there’s a salon near Houston known for big curly hair love. Laura McGraw Hair Studio is a haven where women (Sorry, no guys allowed!) are encouraged to embrace their crown and glory, from wavy/swavy all the way to the “tightest little precious coils.”
When we learned Laura calls three or more curls “a group hug,” we wanted to know what motivates her as a stylist, an artist and a freer of curls. “Since becoming a curl specialist, my clientele has become so incredibly diverse I could not be happier,” she says. “Let’s blur the lines one curl at a time.”
It’s barely a year old, but Midtown Curls in Reno, Nevada, is already known for its down to earth vibe, all things balayage and creative color. And of course, the curls. When 25-year-old owner and nature lover, Anna Gabriella Palotai, opened the studio, she took her cue from Mother Earth, creating an atmospheric place where her clients can feel at ease with their service, and the products on the shelves.
“We are known for teaching people how to achieve happy, healthy hair, but our specialty is with curly hair textures,” she says. After spending a day with Anna and her fellow stylist, Loni Jean Lafinier in San Francisco recently, we just had to know more about this fresh, new salon and the young talent behind it! When it comes to curls, to each her own. Every ringlet, wave, swave or kink is unique to every woman. That’s why guests at Kelly Elaine Inc. in Pittsburgh, PA, receive Custom Curl Care Recommendations with every Custom Cut and Styling Lesson.
“Knowing which products to use and how to apply them to reproduce their frizz free curl style at home lets them leave empowered to care for their own curls,” says Kelly Anker, owner. “Healthy curls = beautiful curls… who doesn’t want that?” We talked to her about that empowerment, beautiful curls and the role Innersense plays in her salon.
Take an East Coast transplant and move her out West. Take a former Loreal and Schwarzkopf education director and move her to Carmel, then Salinas, California. Throw in gorgeous, rolling green hills, some of the nation’s most verdant farmland and a growing awareness of organics, in farming, in eating and in lifestyle choices. There, you’ll find Kristen King, curl whisperer and owner of Ringlets and Roots, an intimate boutique salon that specializes in curls, color, greener product lines and wow results in the heart of “America’s Salad Bowl.”
With the year coming to a close, during my morning walk I was reflecting on the past and how might I want to greet the New Year. I walk my two dogs most mornings, and this morning was not much different. The weather has been very cold and I knew that I needed to bundle up! When I stepped off the curb, I was surprise to feel soft rain falling on me. I kept walking, and picked up my pace a bit. Just so happy to be out, the dogs never seem to mind the weather. The air felt very clean and inviting. It felt as though the misty rain and I connected to something far greater than myself. Don’t they say water is a conduit? That’s what it felt like to me.
Not all shampoos are created equal. And, our two shampoos, Pure Harmony Hairbath and Color Awakening Hairbath, are different from conventional shampoos. Their unique formulation, and specifiic ingredients used, creates a very different shampoo experience. “What differentiates Innersense shampoos from conventional shampoos?” is the most common question we’re asked.
Not only is this a great question, it’s also one we love to answer!
When Elizabeth came to our office for a business meeting, it was exciting to share our company, products and philosophy with her. As a beauty industry professional, it was a delight to learn she loves all kinds of beauty products, too. After discovering this, I couldn’t help but offer her a hair care detox challenge. I asked her to try our Innersense Organic Beauty products for 14 days and report her findings.
