The Dirty Truth About Clean Beauty + Organic Hair Care

Have you heard the term “clean beauty” and wondered what it was? If so, you’re not alone.

Here’s the “dirty truth” about clean beauty, and how we embrace it here at Innersense Organic Beauty.

While the idea of clean beauty isn’t new, the phrase is newly in vogue. In fact, the rise of interest in clean beauty in the U.S. has grown over 80% in just the last 4 years, and shows no signs of slowing down.

The “clean beauty” movement refers to products made with toxic-free ingredients, ethically sourced, and made with the health of our bodies and the environment in mind. Inspired by this movement, companies like Think Dirty, Goop and The Detox Market go to great efforts to research and evaluate beauty products. They reveal the integrity of ingredients for consumers, if a product is as organic as it claims, or if the ethical standards of the company are something consumers would support.

We are incredibly proud to have received the Dirty Thinkers’ Choice Awards for our organic shampoo and, well, all of our organic hair products, with the highest rating they offer, ZERO! ~ Joanne & Greg Starkman, founders of Innersense Organic Beauty

Pretty cool, huh?

The dirty truth about some beauty products is that they might contain ingredients that irritate the skin or include chemicals or toxins one wouldn’t actually want to touch or ingest. Until recently, it’s been hard to know just how to distinguish clean from dirty (think confusing labels, etc). So, we believe this is a positive direction for the beauty world. And, having the information available and transparent can help empower us all to choose products we want to buy or support.

At Innersense Organic Beauty, we think this is all exciting and fabulous news. Clean beauty speaks to the heart of our mission, and expands way beyond hair care.

Yes, hair is the medium we play with to express ourselves, and we will always celebrate the joy of organic hair care, but clean beauty and organic ingredients invite a deeper lifestyle choice that goes from hair to heart.

Here’s what clean beauty means to us:

Transparency: We love to show you the ingredients we use, as well as the ingredients we don’t. We are always here to answer any questions you might have about what’s inside the bottle.

Be true to your Innersense: We built this company on this premise and it holds as true today as ever.

Seek love + laughter: Yes, we believe loving your hair is a sacred ceremony of self-love that expands to others around you.

Consider the bigger things: Clean beauty invites us to consider how the smaller things impact the greater whole. Explore clean food, clean water, and clean body from this perspective. We have a wonderful 14-Day Detox to start your journey.

Now it’s your turn!

What does clean beauty mean to you? It’s very personal and unique to each of us. We invite you to share from your heart, and we ask that the conversation stay positive and inclusive to all. Share your clean beauty thoughts with us in the comment section below!

Clean Beauty to me is created by nature with a passion driven by ultimate health and well being. In the beginning, we were given all the plants we need to live a vibrant healthy life, clean beauty is the ways and means going back to where it all began and leaving toxic chemicals where they belong… out of our food supply and everything that is suppose to beautify our skin and heal our body nourishing it from the inside out.

  • Wendy says:

The concept of clean beauty should extend to product packaging. Please use plastic alternatives. Recycling is not enough.

    • Innersense Tribe says:

      Hi Wendy,

Thank you for reaching out to us on the topic of plastic. We are currently exploring sustainable packaging options as we speak. We’re working closely to find a material that can work for hair care, but is also lesser impact and eventually zero impact on our environment. This is not a simple task and we want to make sure we get it right now and in the future when even greener materials become available as technology advances in packaging.

      Thank You!

      • Deborah says:

I’m so happy you’re moving in this direction! I love the 5 Innersense products I recently purchased but don’t know if I’ll purchase again because of the plastic packaging.

        • Innersense Tribe says:

          Hi Deborah,

We appreciate your support and we can’t wait for the day that we can make the switch. In the meantime we completely understand wanting to reduce your plastic use, but we don’t want you to have to give up on products you love. Have you looked into our liter sizes we have available? You can purchase liter sizes in all of our hairbaths and conditioners, treatment products and some of our stylers. You can have 3 10 oz bottles in one. Less ordering and less packaging. It’s a small step, but it’s one that is in a greener direction.

          Thank You!
